The new Omicron variant suggests that the virus was lab-created rather than transferred from animals.

Context: The new mutation of the Omicron variant and the significant mutations of Covid close to the “furin cleavage site” are sparking concerns.

The Washington Times reported about an article from the Lancet Microbe Journal states, “the presence of a furin cleavage motif at the SARS-CoV-2 S1–S2 interface is therefore highly unusual, leading to the smoking-gun hypothesis of manipulation that has recently gained considerable attention as a possible origin.”

Why this is important: Viruses usually mutate from the circulating viruses.

However, Omicron seems to have mutated from the original strain of SARS-CoV-2 that emerged in China.

Possible Repercussions: Vaccines were designed to fight the “original strain” of Covid, and viruses are concerned because this strain is “very different from the original.
