Democrats are looking to possibly make changes to the Child Tax Credit in order to win Senator Joe Manchin’s vote for President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Legislation.
Context: Manchin is demanding that the Child Tax Credit be funded permanently, and what Democrats want to do is to slim down the credit enough to do this.
The target, right now, seems to be above $2000 but below $3000.
What this means: Senator Manchin’s lack of support essentially killed the bill. The decision handed Biden a legislative loss and increased the ineffectiveness of his administration.
A recent loss on voting rights legislation compounded that and now Democrats are scrambling to save themselves.
