The final step in a visa application is usually an in-person interview at the U.S. Consulate, but with the rise of the virus in-person interviews are being suspended.

Context: Applicants for H-1B, L-1, and O-1 visas will no longer be required to do an in-person interview. Student visas were previously exempted.

What this means: With many consulates closed or operating short-staffed a logjam of visa applicants has been created.

The new system will allow for the logjam to be removed and according to the US Chamber of Commerce will benefit American companies looking for skilled workers.
