Two Senate Republicans have announced their intentions to run for re-election.
Context: The senate lineup for Republicans in the 2022 midterms is set with the recent announcement by Senators Ron Johnson (Wisc.) and John Thune (S.D.).
Thune has clashed with President Trump and could be seen as a skeptic of the former president, while Johnson is an ardent supporter of President Trump and a strong election skeptic.
Why this is important: Republicans are looking to break the stalemate in the Senate that currently sits at 50-50 with some wins in 2022.
A Republican majority in the Senate will essentially stop the forward movement of the Biden agenda.
Democrats are defending 14 seats while Republicans are defending 20.
The competitive races will occur in Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
