It appears that the Senate will vote to block President Biden’s vaccine mandate.
Context: Sen. Joe Manchin is indicating he will vote alongside Republicans to block the employee mandate.
All 50 Senate Republicans, led by Sen. Mike Braun, R-Ind., backed a challenge to the vaccine mandate last month under the Congressional Review Act (CRA).
That act allows Congress to officially disapprove of an executive branch regulation by passing a resolution through each chamber of Congress.
Democrat Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) indicated he would support the resolution giving Republicans 51 votes. The GOP has also indicated that Senator Krysten Sinema (D-Ariz) could support it as well.
What happens next: If Republicans can gain enough support from Democrats to force a vote, it could pass through the House as well.
However, the Act is subject to a presidential veto.
It is unlikely Biden will sign a bill blocking his own mandate.
What they are saying:
Manchin: “I do not support any government vaccine mandate on private businesses.”
