Democrats have reportedly now officially killed any chance of passing President Biden’s ambitious and massive ‘Build Back Better’ reconciliation bill.
The Details: The development means the 2 Trillion dollar bill will be delayed at least until next year and also increases the chance that it may ultimately never be passed.
Though most of the measures in the bill wouldn’t have taken effect for months or years, the move will likely delay expanded child tax credit payments, which officially expired on Wednesday. The IRS had originally requested that the bill be enacted before December 28th.
What People are Saying:
Dems shelved the Build Back Better bill – the cornerstone of the Biden agenda — to shift to election reform bills.

This thread illustrates what always, to me, seemed like the fundamental problem with the BBB bill. No one could ever really decide what it was *about*. I had my own ideas for what it should be about, but everyone else had their own ideas. https://t.co/8awSt06STA

Sen. Hirono to me re Manchin/BBB: “That's where he's at and this is why if you have a 50/50 split Senate, you can have one person, or two people, just stop everything and that is why people in our country should know that a 50/50 Senate sucks and we can’t get things done.”
