China and the United States are at odds over President Joe Biden’s democracy summit.
Context: China sees the summit as a challenge to its authoritarian ways.
China went as far as to call what it has its own form of democracy.
Why it matters: Biden’s summit will host a virtual meeting with 110 other countries and China is getting out in front.
China will issue a report titled “China: Democracy that Works” five days before Biden’s summit begins.
The White House stood boldly, with Press Secretary Jen Psaki stating “that’s nothing we’re going to apologize for.”
What they are saying:
President Biden has shown that he is committed to defending Taiwan's independence by inviting their leaders to participate in the first ever Summit for Democracy. The United States must continue to support Taiwan in their pursuit of freedom & democracy.https://t.co/jkK0A7H0G3
