The National Republican Senatorial Committee has launched a new ad targeting Senator Sherrod Brown who’s Ohio seat is coveted by Republicans. The ad focuses on recent reports which claim that Brown skipped out on home taxes 7 times since 2013 and even received an illegal tax break on his second home. According to NBC news, Brown:

“for years claimed an owner-occupancy tax credit at two properties, public records show — a potential violation of the state’s rules governing such incentives.”

NRSC Spokesman Philip Letsou recently said of Brown:

“Sherrod Brown is a hypocrite who voted to raise taxes on Ohio families but failed to pay his own. After nearly 50 years in politics, it’s clear Sherrod Brown has lost touch with the voters who elected him.”

“After nearly 50 years in politics, it’s clear Sherrod Brown has lost touch with the voters who elected him.”

The ad is set to run on Twitter and Facebook and is part of a five-figure ad buy from the NRSC.

The GOP has set their eyes on the Ohio senate seat because they see Ohio as becoming redder every year. Although, Brown is seen as a long-time political figure in the state and could be more difficult to unseat than other Democrats. Robert Blizzard, a GOP pollster shared his views on the GOP’s chances of taking down Brown, saying:

“The way the state has certainly trended over the last six, seven, eight years now, this is probably the best opportunity to beat him.”

“This is going to be a different political environment for Sherrod Brown than what he has had to face in previous campaigns.”

Brown has developed a special connection with Ohio voters which has made him the only remaining statewide elected Democrat. In the past, he has been able to garner support from both white and working class voters.
