A Virginia school board voted to reverse its vaccine mandate.

Context: Richmond, Virginia school Superintendent Jason Kamras previously approved a vaccine mandate which would require unvaccinated teachers to be fired or have their pay withheld starting Nov. 1.

What happened: On Monday the Richmond school board voted 6-3 to strike down the mandate.

The move came after the board approved the resignation of 29 teachers over the vaccine mandate.

Prior to the vote, Kamras defended the mandate, arguing it’s not a mandate “if there are no consequences.”

What Pro-Mandate Individuals Say: Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney slammed the school board’s vote saying, “You cannot enact a public health mandate and then tear out the teeth of that mandate.”

What Anti-Mandate Individuals Say: Virginia parents have praised the Richmond school board’s decision.
