During a press conference with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and other officials who were providing an update on the elementary school shooting, O’Rourke rushed the podium.
“You are doing nothing,” O’Rourke yelled. “You said this was not predictable; this was totally predictable, and you choose not to do anything.”
Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, who was seated behind Abbott, interrupted O’Rourke by repeatedly saying, “sir, you are out of line.”
He then stated, “I can’t believe you’re a sick son of a bitch who would come to a deal like this to make a political issue,” according to The Hill.
Senator Ted Cruz of Texas was also onstage. He stepped forward to tell O’Rourke to “sit down” and not “play this stunt.”
O’Rourke continued to speak as he was escorted out of the conference by security.

Abbott spoke about the victims families after the interruption.
“There are family members whose hearts are broken. There’s no words that anybody shouting can come up here and do anything to heal these broken hearts,” he said.
