Former President Trump reiterated his support for the embattled young representative.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said, “When Madison was first elected to Congress, he did a great job.”

“Recently, he made some foolish mistakes, which I don’t believe he’ll make again…let’s give Madison a second chance!”

Trump first endorsed Representative Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) for reelection last year, but his latest statement of support follows a series of controversies that have come one after another.

The unflattering leaks started after he now infamously accused establishment politicians in DC of regularly doing cocaine and holding sex parties during a podcast interview.

He now faces opposition from many high-profile North Carolina Republicans, most of whom have endorsed one of his rivals, state Senator Chuck Edwards. Senator Thom Tillis has also endorsed Edwards.

Cawthorn needs at least 30% of the vote to advance to the general election.
