Washington D.C. police say the intruder was smashing windows at the Peruvian ambassador’s home.

After hearing several windows break, the ambassador’s family called the Secret Service.

When they arrived, they encountered a man armed with a “metal stake” who had been smashing the embassy’s windows.

Two uniformed Secret Service officers attempted to use their Taser to detain the man.

The Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee told reporters, “The officers fired those Tasers, they did not take effect and … ultimately the officers pulled their service weapons, firing shots and this person is now deceased.”

Contee said the individual is not known to law enforcement and they do not immediately have a motive, but an investigation is underway.
