According to a new report, deaths due to drug overdoses in the U.S. hit a new record high in 2021.

The Details: Overdose deaths topped over 100,000 for the first time according to new federal data.

The new wave of deaths is reportedly linked to the pervasive spread of fentanyl across the country, leading to significantly higher levels of overdoses.

The U.S. has experienced over one million deaths from drug overdoses since the year 2000, and more than half of that number occurred in the past seven years.
