Poland’s President Andrzej Duda said Thursday that they would be sending Ukraine “around a dozen MiG-29 fighter jets” according to NBC News. This send makes Poland the first NATO member to fulfill the Ukrainian warplane request. Though they have mentioned they would be sending around a dozen planes, they are only sending four now, “within the next few days,” and the rest after they go through servicing.
President Duda is sending the country planes “in the last years of their functioning.” He also announced the country would be replacing these planes with South Korea-made FA-50 fighters and American-made F-35s.
Duda did not say what the rest of NATO will do, or if they would be the only member to send warplanes to the war-torn country. However, on Wednesday, Polish government spokesman Piotr Mueller said that some other countries would be giving Ukraine MiGs, though he did not name those countries.
