Rare tie among Senate Judiciary Committee sets up simple majority vote to move nomination forward.

The panel is made of 11 Republicans and 11 Democrats due to the 50-50 party divide in the Senate. Their expected 11-11 vote on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court will push the vote to the Senate floor on Monday, where a simple majority can advance her nomination.

All 50 Democrats are expected to fall in line behind Judge Jackson. At least one Republican, Susan Collins (R-ME), will vote to confirm which will avoid the need for Vice President Kamala Harris to cast a tie-breaking vote.

Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) could also cast votes in favor of Judge Jackson. Their vote on the panel will be watched carefully as it may hint toward their stance on her confirmation, which neither has publicly announced.
