Fox News host Harris Faulkner shot down former Democratic Rep. Pat Murphy of Pennsylvania after Murphy tried to deflect a question about the economy.

President Joe Biden currently has a 39.2% approval rating on the economy compared to a 58.2% disapproval rate, according to the RealClearPolitics average of polls between March 8 and April 16. Faulkner initially asked Murphy if Biden was acknowledging economic pain Americans were suffering, with Murphy trying to deflect blame to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think he is acknowledging the problem,” Murphy told Faulkner, adding, “He said we just went through the worst global pandemic in decades.”

“You know I love having you on the program, but I did not ask you how the world is doing, I want to talk about how America is doing,” Faulkner responded. “Global pandemic, I get it. What I’m saying is did he tell Americans that he feels their economic pain?”

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 3.5% year-over-year in March, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, following a 3.2% year-over-year increase in February. Even though inflation is down from a recent high of 9.1% in June 2022, prices have risen over 18% since Biden took office in January 2021.

“I think the American people have a better memory than Joe Biden, because they remember what life was like under Donald Trump when gas was cheap, they could afford a home, they could afford groceries,” former RNC spokesperson Cassie Smedlie told Faulkner.

“Let’s look at Pennsylvania, where he keeps spending time: He is under water in the polls and economic stats don’t favor him,” Smedlie continued. “Inflation up 17%, the average household $888 more dollars a month just to live. So, even when he says you have a job now, is that job actually paying a wage that allows you to keep your head above water as a result of  Joe Biden’s policies?”

On inflation, Biden has a 34.5% approval rating compared to a 63.5% disapproval rate, according to the RealClearPolitics average of polls between March 8 and April 16.
