A team of American medical professionals are set to scrutinize what are thought to be human remains discovered amongst the debris of the Titan submersible, the ill-fated vessel that underwent a disastrous implosion in the North Atlantic last week, with the circumstances surrounding the event remaining unclear.

US Coast Guard Capt. Jason Neubauer said in a statement Wednesday:

“There is still a substantial amount of work to be done to understand the factors that led to the catastrophic loss of the TITAN and help ensure a similar tragedy does not occur again,”

The strenuous search operation reached a sorrowful conclusion as US officials announced the devastating news: The Titan had suffered a severe implosion, and it was believed that all five crew members had lost their lives in the incident.

The US Coast Guard has initiated their most intense level of examination, a Marine Board of Investigation, to probe the root cause of this catastrophe. The board aims to provide recommendations for any necessary civil or criminal action to the appropriate authorities, shared Neubauer, the leader of the board and the head of the Titan investigation team.

The investigative process will include a meticulous examination of the fragments from the shipwreck, the accumulation of evidence, the interviewing of eyewitnesses, and a public forum for additional witness statements.
