The West Virginia Representative also described the event as a “protest”.

Representative Alex Mooney (R-WV) made the comments during an interview with MetroNews’ “TalkLine”.

He was asked why he didn’t support a bill last year to create an independent commission to investigate the attack.

“It was a protest, that’s what it was. A few people went in and law should be implemented for those who broke it,” Mooney said Thursday, adding “I do not think it was a domestic terrorist attack.”

Mooney, who has been endorsed by former President Trump, will face off in midterms with Representative David McKinley, who was recently endorsed by moderate Democrat Joe Manchin in a campaign ad.

McKinley was one of 35 Republicans who voted in favor of establishing the commission.
