A federal judge in Georgia has blocked President Biden’s order that requires all federal contractors to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
Context: U.S. District Judge Stan Baker of Savannah, Georgia issued a nationwide injunction for the mandate that was set to begin January 18th.
The judge stated that President Biden overstepped his authority when he issued the requirement for contractors.
Why this is important: As challenged to vaccine mandates work their way through lower courts it sets up a possible showdown on the issue at the United States Supreme Court.
Biden is also facing challenges to a mandate for vaccinations for the employees of companies with over 100 employees.
