Texas Representative Chip Roy has endorsed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the presidency in a campaign email, even though DeSantis has not officially announced his candidacy. In his endorsement, Roy praised DeSantis for his leadership qualities and his ability to protect the American people against the harmful effects of excessive government and corporate power, wasteful spending, and cultural indoctrination. Roy also noted that DeSantis’ landslide victory in the 2022 Florida gubernatorial election demonstrates his electability and political prowess, as well as his ability to generate a red wave down-ballot.

Roy’s endorsement comes after attending a donor conference in Florida that focused on replicating DeSantis’ successful electoral strategy nationwide. The event also hinted at DeSantis’ potential presidential run, given his consistently high polling numbers. Roy’s endorsement makes him only the second member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus to endorse someone other than former President Donald Trump. It is worth noting that DeSantis himself was a founding member of the Freedom Caucus when he served in the House.

DeSantis has been widely speculated as a potential 2024 Republican presidential candidate due to his rising popularity among conservative voters, especially after his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in Florida. His opposition to mask mandates and lockdowns, as well as his pro-business stance, has garnered him support from many Republicans who see him as a potential alternative to Trump. However, DeSantis has not yet announced his candidacy, and it remains to be seen whether he will decide to run for president or seek re-election as governor of Florida.
