Disney has clashed with the state and activists over its stance on recent legislation and LGBT issues.

Despite activist pressure, Disney stayed silent on Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, which was signed into law last month. It then apologized for its silence and pledged to fight for its repeal.

During a press conference, DeSantis said the proclamation he signed would end the Reedy Creek Improvement District. It was created in 1967 to allow landowners, like Disney, to claim governing authority overs their land and provide services such as utilities.

The district now includes Disney World’s fourth theme parks, two water parks, a sports complex, and its hotels, restaurants, and retail stores.

Florida’s legislature will meet this week to consider the proposition.

State Representative Spencer Roach said lawmakers have already met twice to discuss terminating the special districts.

“If Disney wants to embrace ‘woke’ ideology, it seems fitting that they should be regulated by Orange County,” he said.
