China has promised to open fire on troops from the United States if they come to the aid of Taiwan.
China has promised to open fire on troops from the United States if they come to the aid of Taiwan.
Context: China going to war with Taiwan has become more of a possibility in recent weeks and months.
China is readying its war machine near Taiwan and is now threatening the United States after National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that the United States is prepared to counter an attempt by China to forcefully seize Taiwan.
Why this matters: China has been escalating tensions with the island they consider theirs since Biden took office in January of 2021.
The United States continues to have the position that a forceful takeover of the country by China is not on the table.
This could lead to a hot war between the two global powers sooner rather than later.
What people are saying:
Jake Sullivan says "China's reunification of Taiwan by force will never happen", and Mark Milley says China is enhancing its military to revise the global rule set.
