The closely watched election is another win in former President Trump’s column.

The highly anticipated race was the first between two Republican incumbents. West Virginia lost one of its congressional districts as a result of the 2020 census, leaving the two representatives facing off.

Despite Representative David McKinley’s advantage, the newly redrawn district incorporated significantly more of his former territory, he was unable to withstand the power of Trump’s endorsement.

Representative Alex Mooney hit McKinley particularly hard for being one of the 13 House Republicans to vote for Biden’s infrastructure bill and one of 35 to vote for a commission to investigate the happenings on January 6th.

NBC News first called the race for Mooney. Barring a political disaster, he is certain to win the general election in this strong Republican district.
