President Biden was finally able to admit that the U.S. economy is headed in the wrong direction. In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Biden conceded that the economy could be heading toward a “slight recession,” even though it already is in one. Biden had to be pushed by Tapper in order to reveal this though, and initially told him that he didn’t believe there would be a recession. He said, “Look, they’ve been saying this now-every six months they say this, every six months, they look down at the next six months and see what’s gonna happen. It hadn’t happened yet.” He later added, a recession is “just not there.”
The weak nature of the president’s response surely inspires little confidence in Americans who see Biden as detached from the reality of inflation and a declining economy. Later in the conversation, Tapper pressed Biden on the president’s skepticism of a recession even though he admitted it could happen earlier in the interview. Biden retorted:
“It is possible—look, it’s possible. I don’t anticipate it. What I do think—look, we talk about the impact on families. They have reason to be concerned about energy prices, they have reason to be concerned about a whole range of issues. But look at what we’ve done. We’ve been able to- with the Inflation Reduction Act.”
No American would be wise to trust Biden’s outlook on the economy. Especially as midterms approach and democrats look to shed the image of the party that will make your bills higher.
