Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) posted a video to Instagram just before the holiday weekend started, explaining to her followers that the manicure she’s on her way to receive is actually an act of resistance against the recent Dobbs ruling.

In the video, she says that “personal acts of reclamation” resulting in joy can be used as a form of political protest for those who feel otherwise powerless.

“Today, I have a personal errand: I need to redo my nails. And I’ve decided that I am going to use my new manicure as almost like a personal act of reclamation for me and my story,” AOC declared.

In a later video, she explained that she sees manicures as an act of defiance because, in her conservative family, red nails were considered a sign of “loose” behavior.

Besides getting her nails done, AOC has repeatedly urged protesters to escalate their demonstrations outside of the Supreme Court and called for the conservative justices who voted to overturn Roe to be impeached.
