Thursday evening, coal boss and Trump ally, Governor Jim Justice announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate which will pit him against Sen. Joe Manchin. The announcement came during a special event at the governor’s Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia where his supporters gathered for the exciting news. Justice and Manchin are the state’s most prominent political figures, and the race will garner national attention as Republicans look to flip the seat.
Joining the special event were Senators Lindsey Graham and Shelley Moore Capito. The NRSC has heavily recruited Justice, a coal magnate, to run as West Virginians have increasingly grown tired of Democratic policies.
Graham heaped praise on Justice during his remarks and stated how important it would be for Republicans to win the West Virginia seat.
“Jim will move the ball forward in Washington DC. Jim Justice knows how to deliver for people he represents. He’s done it in his state! He’s an unashamed prolife Governor. He protects your guns and your wallet. Jim Justice will be one less vote for the radical agenda,” said Graham.
“I have seen up close and personal when the other side is in charge. They will do anything to maintain power. We need someone that is always reliable that Schumer isn’t going to hold-wink. I’m here because I’m worried. But we ought to be hopeful too. We gotta take back the Senate, keep the House and elect a Republican President,” added the longtime senator.
Governor Justice is a strong Trump supporter and the NRSC recently endorsed the former president in 2024. Graham confirmed both party’s support for Trump saying, “Jim jumped on the Trump Train because Trump delivered for the country. I hope it’s Trump in 2024. We need to give him a Senate he can work with. We did 3 Supreme Court justices. Don’t tell me support doesn’t matter in Washington.”
Graham concluded his remarks, “The road to the Republican majority runs through West Virginia. The whole world is looking at you. The whole world is hoping you’ll get it right this time. You got the best person to take back the Senate. I want someone from West Virginia to come to Washington who votes the way West Virginia wants him to. The West Virginia way is working. The Washington way is not working.”
Republicans see Justice’s race as one of the most pivotal in 2024 so don’t be surprised if the Manchin-Justice fight is the second most covered race in 2024.
