Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he intends to force Republicans to go on record.

Democrats will reportedly target their Republican colleagues on exceptions for rape and incest, according to The Hill.

“Now that the court is poised to strike down Roe, it is my intention for the Senate to hold a vote on legislation to codify the right to an abortion in law,” he announced Tuesday morning.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) said party leaders will be “asking the senators to go on record on aspects of this, for instance rape and incest exceptions.”

Durbin also said that there is currently no discussion to expand the court, which liberal activists have long hoped for since President Joe Biden took office, nor are there plans to abolish the filibuster.

Removing the filibuster would give Democrats a better chance at passing legislation. However, Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) describe themselves as pro-life and do not support getting rid of the filibuster.

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) tweeted his support for the move and demanded actions, as did other progressives early this morning.
