While the bill has virtually no chance of passing, it exposes the party’s extremist desires for gun control.
Three top Democrat Senators introduced a gun control bill that would dramatically alter how firearms are sold and purchased in the country.
According to The Hill, Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) authored the bill.
Titled the Federal Firearm Licensing Act, it would require residents to apply for a Department of Justice license before purchasing or otherwise obtaining a firearm. It would also raise the legal age of firearm ownership to 21.
In order to be approved for the license, residents would need to complete a written safety test and multiple physical tests including firing testing.
Applicants would also need to submit a criminal background check, fingerprints, and proof of identity.
Book said in a statement to Politico it is the time to get ambitious on the issue.
“This is the moment to enact ambitious legislation – as a nation, we must rise to it, or we are fated to witness the deadly scenes of this past weekend and years past over again,” he said.
