Conservative talk show host, Larry Elder has made his final decision on if he will once again challenge California’s Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Background: In 2021, Elder was the top Republican contender to take down Newsom in a recall effort.

California voters organized a recall effort against Newsom over his dismal response to the Covid-19 pandemic and soaring prices in the state. Newsom enacted authoritarian mandates in an effort to curb the spread that also led to a mass exodus of California taxpayers.

What Happened: Larry Elder announced he will not run to challenge Gov. Newsom in 2022.

“While I may not know what the future holds for me politically, our campaign’s ability to attract millions of votes and millions of dollars in a very short time demonstrates we have a message that resonates with Americans, and I believe we can put that to good use,” Elder added.

Instead, Elder is launching a new political action committee, Elder for America.

What It Means: This leaves the primary field open for another Republican to challenge Gov. Newsom.
