Rep. Henry Cuellar from Texas was the victim of an armed carjacking outside his apartment in Washington, DC on Monday. The incident occurred around 9:32 p.m. and, fortunately, Cuellar was unharmed. As he was parking, three individuals approached him, held guns to his head, and proceeded to steal his car and phone. The stolen car is described as a white Honda bearing Texas license plates.
Cuellar’s chief of staff Jacob Hochberg released the following statement:
“As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, three armed assailants approached the congressman and stole his vehicle,”
“Luckily, he was not harmed and is working with local law enforcement. Thank you to Metro PD and Capitol Police for their swift action and for recovering the congressman’s vehicle.”
An alert has been issued advising the public to notify the police if they spot the vehicle or the three male suspects, described as wearing all-black attire. The incident is currently under investigation by both DC police and the US Capitol Police. This carjacking adds to a string of violent crimes in the region this year that have impacted Congress members and their staff.
