A federal judge in D.C. has dismissed former President Trump’s lawsuit to keep his tax returns from Congress.
Context: On Tuesday, Washington, D.C. judge Trevor McFadden dismissed former President Trump’s lawsuit seeking to block Congressional Democrats from obtaining his personal tax records.
The federal district judge appointed by Trump said that “facially valid” congressional inquiries should not be impeded.
What this means: The ruling is a win for House Democrats but the tax returns won’t be seen any time soon.
McFadden stayed his ruling for 14-days giving the parties time to reach an agreement and instructed the executive branch not to transfer the returns during this time.
Trump’s lawyers have filed a notice of appeal.
