Former President Trump has reportedly already made up his mind on whether or not to run again for president in 2024. The “big decision” he has left to make is to determine the most advantageous time to announce his choice.

Speaking to the New York Magazine, Trump said he’d already made up his mind.

“Well, in my own mind, I’ve already made that decision, so nothing factors in anymore. In my own mind, I’ve already made that decision,” he said.

The question, he followed, is whether he announces “before or after” midterms.

Trump believes announcing before midterms could be an advantage for himself, but not necessarily for the Republican Party.

“Let people know. I think a lot of people would not even run if I did that because, if you look at the polls, they don’t even register. Most of these people,” he said. “And I think that you would actually have a backlash against them if they ran. People want me to run.”

But some of his allies within the party warn that a premature announcement could lead people to blame Trump should midterms not pan out.

A person with knowledge of Trump’s discussions told the magazine that Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) warned him against announcing this summer as he’d be an easy scapegoat.

The Washington Post cited two advisors as saying Trump is looking at announcing in September. He has reportedly begun meeting with top donors to discuss details regarding online infrastructure for his campaign.
