House speaker Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Kamala Harris find themselves on opposite ends of the table as Democrats try to come up with a unified response to the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade.

In a “Dear Colleague” letter to Democrats, Nancy Pelosi implored the party to eliminate the filibuster and outlined potential legislative responses Democrats could take.

She called for the House to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act which would “enshrine Roe v. Wade in to the law of the land”.

Pelosi then called for eliminating the filibuster, but not until after midterm elections.

“It is essential that we protect and expand our pro-choice Majorities in the House and Senate in November so that we can eliminate the filibuster so that we can restore women’s fundamental rights — and freedom for every American.”

There is near universal agreement that Republicans will take back the House in November, all but ensuring federal abortion legislation is blocked in the chamber.

Meanwhile, in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Vice President Kamala Harris refused to entertain the idea of eliminating the filibuster.

Harris also dismissed an idea floated by progressive Senator Elizabeth Warren, who called for the Biden administration to set up abortion tents on federal land.
