Joe Biden might only be a one-term president according to sources close to the matter.
What Happened: During an interview with The New York Times, longtime Biden confidante and former Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd admitted that Biden may not be running for a second term in 2024.
“I’m hoping the president runs for reelection,” Dodd stated, “but for whatever reason that might not be the case, it’s hard to believe there would be a short list without Kamala’s name on it. She’s the vice president of the United States.”
Context: So far, Dodd marks the only one to publicly admit that President Biden’s unpopularity is creating real issues for the President’s political future. Since the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, Biden’s approval numbers have been steadily sinking and are now floating amount the mid-30s.
However, while Biden hasn’t made any official announcement on his re-election he has also never made an indication he doesn’t plan to run.
Former President Trump has made numerous public hints into his plans to run for president once again in 2024.
What Happens Next: During Dodd’s interview for The Times he noted that Vice President Harris would be an obvious choice for the Democrat Party’s presidential nomination if Joe Biden chooses not to run, however, White House insiders say that Kamala’s sinking approval numbers had caused more tension between her and the President.
A CNN report claimed that President Biden has reached an “exhausted stalemate” with his Vice President and now repeatedly sidelines her.
The contentious relationship between the two could spell major trouble for Kamala if she attempts to run for President in the future.
What Republicans Say: Republicans say that Biden’s possible decision not to seek re-election could be based on a number of factors ranging from his age and mental state to his numerous failures so far as President which have led to his low approval among Americans.
