But the former president secured some significant wins with other candidates in the state.

Georgia Governor

As expected, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp easily overcame a primary challenge from Trump-backed former Senator David Perdue.

Kemp soared to an overwhelming lead backed by a broad coalition of Republican politicians and voters. He is a popular governor, having accomplished a variety of conservative legislative successes in his first term.

He will face off in a rematch against Stacey Abrams, who won the Democratic primary uncontested.

Georgia Senate

Trump’s candidate fared much better in the Senate primary. Former pro-football star Herschel Walker handily defeated six other candidates to emerge victorious.

He had secured endorsements from both Trump and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Walker has been a close friend of Trump for decades and a staunch supporter of his political ambitions.

He will face Democrat incumbent Raphael Warnock in what is expected to be a close and costly race. Both parties see it as a key seat to take back control of the Senate.

Georgia House

Controversial Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene successfully defended her seat against five fellow Republicans and an establishment bent on taking it from her.

She prevailed against a legal effort to disqualify her by opposing voters, who argued she engaged in insurrection by encouraging the incident at the Capitol on January 6th. An administrative law judge dismissed those claims.

Despite the opposition, Greene raised more than $9 million for her reelection campaign, making her one of the year’s top fundraisers.

She will face off against Marcus Flowers in her heavily Republican district.
