Jones claimed a medical condition prevented him from attending a deposition ahead of the Connecticut trial.
Alex Jones has been held in contempt and ordered to appear for a deposition or face weekly fines starting at $25,000. The defamation case against him was brought by families of victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
Jones’ attorney, Cameron Atkinson, objected to the order stating his team wasn’t given enough time to provide evidence of the medical condition that kept Jones from appearing at the previously scheduled deposition.
He said Jones has no objection to the deposition but is following his doctor’s orders.
The contempt ruling comes after the Sandy Hook families rejected Jones’ offer to settle the case.
“The so-called offer is a transparent and desperate attempt by Alex Jones to escape a public reckoning under oath with his deceitful, profit-driven campaign against the plaintiffs and the memory of their loved ones lost at Sandy Hook,” attorneys for the families said in court papers.
