The District will also end mask mandates as of March 1st.

The Background: DC Mayor Muriel Bowser signed an order enforcing vaccine mandates late December of 2021. The order required all indoor establishments to verify customers received at least one vaccination against COVID or be turned away. The order stated that on February 15th, indoor establishments would be required to verify that customers have been fully vaccinated with at least two doses.

Restaurant owners saw pushback from customers immediately as enforcement began. At least one DC establishment, the Big Board, was cited for not complying. The end of January saw thousands of people turn out to protest the mandate in a march around the capital.

The Details: Instead of requiring businesses to proceed with verifying full vaccination, Mayor Bowser is ending the mandate altogether. She said the city will also scale back mask mandates beginning March 1st. They will no longer be required at most indoor locations, however schools and elderly care facilities will not be exempt.
