New York Attorney General’s office has stated that it had evidence to show that former President Trump and his company valued assets falsely in order to obtain loans, insurance, and tax deductions.
Context: The findings were revealed in court documents that asks a judge to force Trump, and his two children, Ivanka and Donald Jr., to comply with subpoenas.
The investigation by the Attorney General is into possible fraud committed by Trump and his organization.
What this means: While the Attorney General would not comment on if charges would be filed against Trump she did say that the foundations of the investigation are “self-evident.”
What happens next: The Trumps have asked a judge to hold off on enforcing the subpoenas until a criminal case against them concludes.
The argument is that the information divulged could be used against them criminally.
A ruling is what will come next, but Trump’s lawyers have said that the filing by the AG, while accusatory, does not address the argument made by them.
The investigation is the genesis of information provided by former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.
