Former President Donald Trump is facing backlash from conservatives after recent comments he made on abortion during an interview for NBC’s ‘Meet the Press.’ When asked about abortion bans, Trump said that 6 week ‘Heartbeat Bills’ like the one passed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis were a ‘terrible thing.’ Trump went on to say that he thinks bans should come at a later period of the pregnancy, and that he would come up “with a number that’s going to make people happy.” Watch the clip below:
Trump on abortion yesterday said “both sides are gonna like me, I’ll negotiate.” Then asked if DeSantis was right on the 6 week abortion bill he says “ what he did was a terrible thing, a terrible mistake.”
This is a leftist stand on abortion. His base should be up in arms. pic.twitter.com/5WI4fQAVFW

Trump is preparing to go soft on abortion and compromise with Democrats because he believes it will get him the most votes. He told NBC:
“Well, people are starting to think of 15 weeks, that seems to be a number that people are talking about right now. What’s going to happen is you’re going to come up with a number of weeks or months. You’re going to come up with a number that’s going to make people happy.”
“I mean ‘DeSanctus’ was willing to sign a five-week and six-week ban. I think what he did was a terrible thing and a terrible mistake.”
The DeSantis campaign was quick to strike back at Trump’s comments, posting:
NEW: Trump says he will compromise with Democrats on abortion so that they’re nice to him: “Both sides are going to like me.”
