On Monday, former president Donald Trump announced he has scheduled his surrender at the Fulton County jail in Georgia for this Thursday. He wrote on Truth Social:
Can you believe it? I’ll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be ARRESTED by a Radical Left District Attorney, Fani Willis, who is overseeing one of the greatest Murder and Violent Crime DISASTERS in American History. In my case, the trip to Atlanta is not for “Murder,” but for making a PERFECT PHONE CALL! She campaigned, and is continuing to campaign, and raise money on, this WITCH HUNT. This is in strict coordination with Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ. It is all about ELECTION INTERFERENCE!
Charges were filed against Trump and 18 others on August 14, relating to alleged efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 presidential results. All defendants have been directed to surrender for booking by Friday noon.
Authorities set Trump’s bail at $200,000 and imposed a restriction on sending threatening messages via social media platforms. Aged 77, this may be the first instance where Trump’s mugshot and fingerprints are taken, akin to other suspects at this infamous facility.
Safety measures have intensified around the jail, with sheriff’s deputies setting up barriers and heightened security. Notably, Trump’s legal representatives were observed at Willis’ office.
The Fulton County officials were clear in their stance, emphasizing that Trump should expect treatment consistent with other inmates, without any exceptions. In preparation for Trump’s arrival, a “hard lockdown” has been announced for the vicinity of the Atlanta jail, which currently is under the Justice Department’s radar for its conditions.
