The Fulton County Clerk of Courts Office has acknowledged an error in prematurely posting an indictment against former President Trump and 18 others, prior to its official approval by a grand jury. The mistake occurred on Monday when the document, detailing charges such as violating the Georgia RICO Act, solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, and conspiracy to commit filing false documents, appeared on the Fulton County Court’s website. The indictment, albeit accurate, was not yet official.
In an interview with WSB-TV, Fulton County Clerk of Superior and Magistrate Courts, Ché Alexander, took responsibility for the oversight. She expressed that the error was a result of pressure to ensure that the indictment process was carried out without hitches.
Alexander said:
“I am human. And that’s how the mishap happened.”
“I did a work sample in the system. And when I hit save, it went to the press queue.”
“It wasn’t an official document. It wasn’t official charges. It was the dry run. It was a work sample,”
The initial document caught the attention of Reuters, who reported on it, prompting the Fulton County Court to take it down. Subsequently, the court issued a statement condemning the prematurely posted document as “fictitious.” They cautioned the media and the public about treating any document as official unless it bears an official case number, filing date, and the name of The Clerk of Courts.
By Monday night, the official indictment, mirroring the earlier charges listed, was released.
